Year 4 abstract art
Year 4 has created some eye-catching and stylish abstract art pieces. They let their coloured pencils go for a random walk on the page and then carefully coloured in the blocked off shapes, making sure that the same colour was not applied to two adjacent shapes. The results are vibrant and fun and would look very much at home at a modern art gallery! Beautiful and extremely neat work Year 4.
Year 6 sailing at Woolverstone Marina
Year 6 enjoyed an incredible day on the water at Woolverstone Marina on Monday. The conditions were perfect and the children had great fun learning to sail dinghies. What a fantastic way to spend a sunny day!
FoBS Summer Fete
Thank you to everyone who came and supported our Summer Fete last week! It was a fabulous afternoon, enjoyed by all in the glorious sunshine. Alongside the FoBS-run stalls, each year group ran their own including Soak the Teacher, Beat the Goalie, Dino Treasure Hunt and Bean Bag Throwing. We ran a competition between the years to see who could raise the most money and Year 5 narrowly beat Year 6 and raised £71 - a great result!
Year 6 Production - Alice in Wonderland
The Year 6 production of Alice in Wonderland was enjoyed by parents this week. The children auditioned, learnt their lines, rehearsed, rehearsed, rehearsed some more and then put on their first performance in just four days! Incredible. Well done Year 6!
Year 5 - Ancient Greece
Year 5 have researched and designed their own Hydria, large pots which were used for carrying water in Ancient Greece. These look great and we can imagine them being well-used a few thousand years ago!
Year 3 - Pollination work
Year 3 have been learning all about pollination. They've created these beautiful drawings clearing showing the sequence of events that occurs. We're so impressed by their understanding and also the care and attention they've poured into these diagrams. Lovely work Year 3.
School Fete - Friday 01 July
The Summer Fete is back!
The fete will soon be here and we'd love for you all to come and enjoy it! It will be after school on Friday 1st July starting at 3.15pm until 5.30pm.
There will be a BBQ & Bar, Tea and Cakes, Vitalina's Ice Cream Van, Raffle, Surprise Sweetie Table, Nerf Shots, Secondhand Clothing Stall including Uniform, Lucky Dip, Teddy Tombola, Splash the Teacher and Tug of War to name a few! To add to all of the above, each class will be running their own stall too, expect LOTS of fun for all.
As always, the Summer Fete wouldn't happen without your help, if you can help with any of the following, we would be very grateful!

Jubilee tea party and Boxford Bake Off
The rather cold and drizzly weather did nothing to dampen spirits at our Jubilee tea party! We moved to the church where the Ipswich over 50s brass band entertained us with a wonderful mix of music, ending up with the National Anthem. Our school community also did us proud with an incredible selection of bakes, biscuits and cakes. Well done and thank you to everyone who supported the event.
Year 6 trip to Thorpe Woodlands
Year 6 had a wonderful and well-deserved four days at Thorpe Woodlands last week. They packed in loads of activities during their trip including canoeing, abseiling, archery, swimming, zip wires and assault courses. We're so pleased that they had such a great time!
Hadleigh Show - Artwork Competition
Agyness in Reception has created a simply stunning spider for the artwork competition at the Hadleigh Show. The category she's entered is 'Mini beast Safari' which is for children in EYFS. Entries needed to be models of a mini-beast doing a useful job and we think that Agyness has depicted this superbly. Well done and good luck for tomorrow!
Jubilee Torch Relay comes to Boxford
The Festival Torch Relay began its journey on Friday 13th May in Brandon, travelling by rikshaw and will cover 588 miles visiting 250 towns and villages. All the children at Boxford school were very excited to learn that the torch would be coming through Boxford, they cheered and waved the torch on with Mrs Ward and Isla from Y4 having a ride to celebrate its arrival. The torch will end at the Suffolk Show on Wednesday 1st June to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
Year 5 - Trojan Horses
Year 5 are learning about Ancient Greece this term. Bringing their learning to life, they've been busy making Trojan horses using their sewing skills. We love what they've created and think a herd of these would have certainly helped the Greeks win the battle of Troy!
Reception Playground
A HUGE thank you to our army of staff and parent volunteers who gave up their time during the Easter holidays to help transform our Reception playground. The children are loving their newly renovated and painted Wendy house and are putting the reading nook and stage to excellent use too! Thank you to everyone involved - we're so very grateful for all your help.
Easter artwork
The Reception class have been hard at work making some fantastic Easter-inspired artwork using their hand prints. We wish all our children, staff and their families a very happy Easter and a wonderful break.
Comic Relief - the results are in!
Mr Griffith would like to thank everyone for getting involved in last Friday's Comic Relief. Whether you dressed up, baked, told a joke or bought a cake you helped to spread a smile through the school and raised a whooping £354 for Comic Relief! The jokes were hilarious, the cakes were delicious and the super hero costumes enabled everyone to be extra super for the day.
Each year had their own joke competition with winners announced. The overall winner of funniest joke goes to Ned in Year 3 :

We had an amazing selection of cakes and bakes, it was very hard to choose a winner from each group, but congratulations to the following people:

Comic Relief and Boxford Bake Off
To celebrate Comic Relief all the children (and staff) dressed up as super heroes in exchange for a small donation. Assembly this morning was full of spidermen and women, supermen and women, marvel characters, fireman, doctors, nurses and even a fabulous transformer! A fantastic effort, thank you for your enthusiasm and excellent dressing up skills!
In addition, the school has organised a Boxford Bake Off which loads of children across the school have got involved in. We're so impressed by the delicious-looking cakes, muffins, biscuits and flapjacks that have been brought in - well done to everyone who's popped on their apron and baked for a good cause. World Book Day
As ever, the children and staff embraced World Book Day and there were some fantastic costumes on display throughout the school. Thank you to parents and staff for getting involved and supporting this brilliant day, we had lots of fun spotting Harry Potter, Oliver Twist, Horried Henry and Supertato!
Year 2 habitats
Year 2 have had a busy week learning all about different habitats. They've learnt how the animals that live in each habitat are specifically suited to that environment and how the habitat provides basic needs for plants and animals to survive and thrive. Year 2 then had fun making their own habitats using a variety of recycled household materials. Can you guess which habitats they've created?
Year 1 information books
Year 1 have been looking at information books and learning about why we have them and how to use them. They learned all about labelling and put their new-found skills to good use by creating some Boxford Zoo books, with bright front covers and packed full of information including labelled pictures. Great work Year 1, we love what you've created.
Crisp packet blankets
One of our Year 3 pupils has been inspired to help the homeless from watching a children’s newsround report. The Crisp Packet Project is a charitable organisation, which recycles crisp packets to make blankets for the homeless. To help support this inspiring project, we will have a box to collect crisp packets. Please make sure they have been rinsed out beforehand if you wish to donate. It’s a fantastic idea that not only helps the planet but those in need. Well done to our Year 3 pupil for bringing it to our attention.
Year 2 go abstract..
Year 2 have been learning about abstract art and particularly focussing on the work of Paul Klee. Inspired by his incredible paintings, they've created some excellent and colourful pieces themselves.
Year 5 go out of this world..
Year 5 have been learning all about the earth and space. They have designed and built their own satellites and have drawn some wonderfully inventive aliens!
Happy New Year and welcome to Mrs Lea
Happy New Year to all our pupils, families and staff. It's lovely to have everyone back at school after the holidays. A big welcome too to Mrs Lea, our new headteacher, it's great to have you here.
Year 3 have been learning about the Stone Age since the start of term. They've already produced some fabulous silhouettes of Stonehenge which have enabled them to work on their shading and blending techniques to create these stunning pictures.
FoBS Festive Fayre and Christmas cards
A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came to the FoBS Christmas Fayre, bought raffle tickets, visited Santa's grotto and donated prizes - FoBS raised a magnificient £2490! We're so grateful for your support and look forward to many more fun events in 2022.
At the end of term, our budding Year 3 artists created some eye-catching Christmas cards to take home. We love the polar bears and reindeer - great work Year 3. Wishing all our families a wonderful Christmas and holiday.
The panto comes to Boxford!
The run up to Christmas would not be complete without a trip to the pantomine! Thanks to the West Midlands Children's Theatre, the (virtual) panto came to Boxford via a screening of Jack and the Beanstalk. To get in the spirit, the staff dressed up as famous pantomine characters - can you work out who is who?
Christmas tree decorations
The whole school have been getting in the Christmas spirit by making an array of gorgeous decorations for the school tree. This will be decorated and on display in St Mary's church, Boxford during the Tree Festival, which is taking place this weekend. Thank you to all year groups for their fantastic work, we can't wait to see the tree decorated and looking amazing!
Year 3 English - George's Marvellous Medicine
Year 3 have just finished reading Roald Dahl's George's Marvellous Medicine in English. Inspired by what they've read, they've put together ingredients and instructions for making their own magical medicine. We love what they've come up with - fantastic imagination Year 3!
Year 6 art - Mexican tinwork or Hojalata
Humans have historically shaped metal into useful and ornamental objects Mexico Tinwork or Hojalata dates back to the 16th century.
Tin is easy to work with and economical. It was pounded, stamped and punched to form elaborate works of art and religious artefacts.
Year 6 used tin foil over embossed card to create their colourful designs which are eye-catching and skillfully made. This is a great display Year 6, well done!
Year 4 work - Anglo Saxons and Vikings
Year 4’s topic is Anglo Saxons and Vikings. The children have been learning about invaders and settlers, where they came from, how they travelled and where they settled. They’ve been busy creating dragon eyes to introduce the story of Beowulf by Michael Morpurgo. Amazing work Year 4, incredible detail!
Fireworks and Remembrance Day
Reception have had a wonderful time this week creating vivid and eye-catching artwork. Printing on black paper, they've produced some wonderful firework displays which capture the colour and energy of the real thing perfectly. On Thursday, in honour of Remembrance Day and the fallen soldiers who lost their lives in the line of duty, they painted some glorious poppies. Well done Reception on your wonderful work.
Save the Date! Boxford's Festive Fayre
FoBS' next event will be the Festive Fayre on Sunday 12th December. We’re joining forces with the church and village hall and will be holding a ‘triple fun’ event, please put the date in your diary. Father Christmas will be there as will plenty of stalls for Christmas shopping and festive arts and crafts. We look forward to seeing you there.
Year 1 Castle Construction
Year 1 have been learning all about castles and their construction. They all agreed that castles made of stone were the most robust. The children then had great fun designing and making their own castles from recycled materials and painted them. Great work year 1!
FoBS Quiz Night
Just before half term the much-anticipated FoBS quiz night took place. Thank you to all those that helped and took part in what was a great evening! Huge thanks especially go to Mark and Jo Mason, Mark as quiz master extraordinaire and Jo for keeping the all-important scores. Congratulations to the the winning team ‘More Wine Please’ and well done to everyone who took part; it was a very close contest! As always, thank you for your support - we raised an amazing £600 on the night!
Year 2 letters
In literacy, Year 2 have written beautiful letters to their teacher explaining why they can't come in to school. They have come up with some fantastic excuses including being stuck in a smelly cage with a tiger in a zoo, being trapped in an alien space ship and being made a slave in Ancient Egypt and being forced to pick up heavy rocks and boulders. Brilliant imagination and lovely handwriting Year 2!
New Headteacher appointment - Mrs Emma Lea
Boxford School is delighted to announce that Mrs Emma Lea will be joining as headteacher in January 2022. Currently at Bucklesham Primary School, Mrs Lea has a wealth of experience and we very much look forward to welcoming to our school.

Reception children have been learning all about 'magical me' and how to draw faces and bodies. They've produced some brilliant self portraits, here is a small selection.
Walk to school month!
Did you know that October is International Walk to School month? Throughout the month, consider the contribution that traffic pollution makes to climate change and the effects it has on wildlife and natural habitats. By walking, cycling or skooting to school, we reduce our carbon emissions which supports natural habitats and animals across the globe. A brisk walk to school can help children get their daily exercise and arrive at school or home feeling refreshed and energised. Walking can have a positive effect on a child's emotional wellbeing. It can encourage independence, road sense and also be an opportunity to chat with friends! We hope as many of our families, where possible, can take this challenge on!
European Language Day
On Friday 24th September Boxford celebrated the European Day of Languages. We travelled around the world in our different year groups, visiting Poland, Italy, India, France, Denmark, Spain and China! The children learnt about these different places in a variety of exciting ways, including stories, songs, spoken and written language and art.
A big thanks to all staff and pupils, who helped to make the day a colourful, fun experience.
Year 5's buckets of happiness
As it's World Smile Day on Friday 01 October, Year 5 have created buckets of happiness to give their loved ones a little cheer. With ideas ranging from holding the door open for someone, to being friendly or making someone laugh, they have thought of some lovely ideas to make someone smile and brighten their day. What a great idea!
James Campbell school visit
The author James Campbell kindly came to Boxford to officially open our fabulous school library. He kept us well entertained; peals of laughter could be heard coming from the school hall! Year 6 have designed book covers based on the titles of some of James' books, all of which are hilarious children's fiction. These are now on display in the library and look great!
The new library is OPEN!
The start of term saw the official opening of our fabulous new library. Bright, light and airy, the library is packed with a wide range of books beautifully displayed to encourage and enthuse our budding bookworms. As well as a centrally placed table for teacher and pupil reading sessions, there are a couple of comfortable quiet spots built into the design, perfect for children who like to settle in with a good book. Author James Campbell kindly opened the library for us and regaled us with hilarious stories, thank you to him for coming and inspiring the next generation of authors!
Welcome back to school
We are delighted to see all our pupils back after the summer break. A big welcome to all our new starters and, of course, to Mr Page who is our new Interim Headteacher. The new library is looking fabulous with all our wonderful books beautifully on display - photos coming soon!
